New-Fin

As part of the Positive Stories series I wanted to do an in-depth introduction into how other Brain Tumour Warriors are promoting positivity beyond their own experience.

I work closely with Daniel, who is a Social Entrepreneur and the Founder of New-Fin. New-Fin is a company that seeks to help teenagers with the mental and spiritual aspects following Brain Surgery. At only 19 years old Daniel has survived major brain surgery and is thriving with his new found lust for life, working hard in college and with building his company. Below is a series of images of Daniel's journey.

New-Fin was born when Daniel noticed that his integration from hospital to home was something that didn't go so smoothly; I think this is something a lot of people resonate with. When you leave the four walls of the hospital you no longer have that continued specialised care and guidance; this lack of care leaves a lot of teenagers and young adults without the confidence to re-enrol in school, their social skills and abilities massively decrease and they feel as though they become a former shell of themselves. This can be due to a number of reasons including: bed bound boredom, loss of some motor skills/independance, family or friends not knowing how to help, anxiety and frustration.

Recovery is not just a physical process rotating around the disease, it is a spiritual, mental and holistic process. It is so easy to forget this!

Daniel wants to tackle the stigma of Brain Surgery Recovery and help teenagers around the world get back on their feet doing something they loved or even trying something new. Daniel recalls days spent learning Origami which helped keep his mind active, however, what he really could have done with was an uplifting gift such as a new fishing rod to help get him up and out of the house. He relies on generous donors and works with patients and families directly to figure out the perfect uplifting gift while providing a virtual mentoring service.

You'll also be pleased to hear that Daniel is recovering well himself and hopes to see New-Fin grow this year. If you'd be interested in donating or buying a shirt to help raise funds and awareness, then follow this link.

By 2020 I am aiming to have raised £5000 for The Brain Tumour Charity to help #FindACureSooner and ensure continued support and readily available resources for patients and families of those who have Brain Tumours. Please click on the link and donate, if all of my readers donated £1 I would have met my target already! https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/moneyforbrains

We are all so proud of you Daniel!
